As a Marine Operations, Summer Student with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of experts in the Burnaby Marine Terminal Operations department. The successful Summer Student will receive an appropriate orientation of the job site and an adequate level of safety training under the direct supervisor of qualified personnel. Escorted Site/Facility visits/orientation will occur for familiarity and an understanding of existing and new equipment. The student will support Marine Terminal Operations & Logistics programs in planning and execution of key tasks.
This position is based out of our Burnaby Regional Office and will report to the Manager Marine Logistics.
Duration: May 5, 2025, to August 29, 2025.
Key Responsibilities
- Developing and maintaining work schedule for Marine Interface Supervisors including vacation/EDO and other absences in conjunction with Westridge dock schedules.
- Sending notifications to vessels for arrival and learning about marine shipping aspects of TM business.
- Distribution of weekly Westridge Marine Terminal schedule to external parties.
- In cooperation with Maintenance Team, scheduling planned maintenance around the berth schedule and vessel movements.
- Daily and weekly reporting and developing analysis reports including some administrative tasks in Ocean Smart system.
- Entry, collection, trending and analysis of some operational data for weekly and monthly reporting.
- Assist in drafting new and updating existing SOPs in 6000 series Integrated Safety Loss Management System (ISLMS) pertaining to Westridge Marine Terminal.
- Support Terminal Operations and Maintenance programs in planning and execution of key tasks.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Currently working towards a post-secondary institute degree in your 2nd or 3rd year of studies with a preference for Marine Transportation and Logistics however, other disciplines will be considered.
- Previous work experience within an industrial setting would be an asset.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft systems – Outlook/Word/Excel/Share Point/WebEx/Teams/Microsoft Calendar.
- Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks as assigned.
- Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
- Self-motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail is critical.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
Other Requirements and Information
- Must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution, returning to full-time studies in the Fall term.
- A valid class 5 driver’s license is preferred.
The expected pay range for this position is $ 24.61 to $31.00 CAD per hour.
