As a Senior HR Business Partner (HRBP) with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of Human Resources professionals. This is a full-time in office position based in our Burnaby Office.
The Senior HR Business Partner works in partnership with the Team Lead, HR Business Partnerships, Manager, and Director of Human Resources to provide a broad range of expertise and counsel that attract, retain, and build our talent pipeline.
This role provides credible and expert HR advice, applies sound judgment and influence, negotiates boundaries, and navigates project leadership. The role is responsible for helping resolve a broad range of issues from straightforward (policy) to more complex HR issues and conflicts regarding impacting the workforce in the portfolio (employees, term-employees and various contractors/consultants). This role will have primary responsibility to provide HR support to our Terminals and Facilities in the Burnaby and Edmonton areas. This position is based in Burnaby, BC.
You will support our workforce in both office and field locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for providing decision support and counsel to leaders and business groups specific to the areas of workforce planning, conflict management, risk mitigation, talent management, performance management, and employee relations which includes the development, refining and interpretation of human resources policies, practices, and procedures.
- Conducting or facilitating training, supporting investigations, organizational design, diversity, and Employment Equity obligations. Champion and support the implementation of our inclusion, diversity, and equity programs across our organization.
- Provide expertise, guidance, oversight, and implementation, of Human Resources programs, policies, practices, systems, and services for a designated business portfolio. Participate in the development or revisions of policies to ensure ongoing legislative requirements are met. Advise leaders on sound termination procedures.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and support investigations as required in a practical, expedient, and discreet manner. Provide HR counsel on conflict resolution recommendations. Support and communicate recommendations to address workplace issues.
- Broker relationship between the business and HR to evaluate and secure specialized resources and services, which include vendors for training, compliance, or recruitment. Identify and elevate HR matters that may pose risk to people or the Company.
- Understand business strategy, operational plans, financials, history and culture to inform, influence, engage and operationalize HR programs and solutions.
- Partner with the business to support the development of engaged high-performing teams. Build and cultivate positive, trust-based working relationships across the business and colleagues.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Sciences) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8-10 years’ experience in Human Resources.
- CPHR designation strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of HR practices, policies, and employment laws.
- Knowledge, interpretation, and application of all applicable Human Resource legislation, policies, processes, and practices. I.e., Employment Standards Code, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Human Rights Legislation.
- Strong analytical and interpretive skills to recognize and comprehend complex issues, policies, regulatory and legislative requirements, and information affecting the client’s environment.
- Proven relationship management, consulting, and teamwork expertise.
- Proven ability to use metrics and data to support strategic analysis and decision making.
- Excellent oral, written communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong project management skills and execution skills to ensure successful delivery/implementation of HR projects, processes, and policies.
- Highly functional in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PeopleSoft, or HRIS.

Other Requirements and Information
- May need to provide support outside of regular business hours and/or on the weekend.
- Although based in the Burnaby office, this position will require travel to various site locations (i.e.: Kamloops BC, Sumas BC, Calgary AB, Edmonton AB, Puget Washington, etc.) to support clients.
