Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as a Director, High Voltage Infrastructure, Pacific Link. In this position, you will play a key role in developing and executing the electrical interconnection strategy required to secure reliable and cost-effective power for Pacific Link facilities.
The Director serves as the primary interface with utilities, regulators, Indigenous partners, engineering consultants, suppliers, and project stakeholders to ensure power solutions are delivered in alignment with project objectives, schedules, and operational requirements. This position offers the opportunity to lead utility engagement, interconnection applications, power system assessments, and related regulatory and commercial activities to support project development, commissioning, startup, and operations.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Interconnection Strategy and Execution
- Define and direct the integrated electrical interconnection strategy, scope, execution roadmap, and delivery milestones required to provide reliable, cost-effective power to Pacific Link facilities from project development through operational readiness.
Utility and Stakeholder Partnerships
- Build and sustain strategic relationships with utilities, power authorities, Indigenous partners, consultants, suppliers, contractors, and project stakeholders to align interests, resolve interface issues, and advance power supply outcomes.
Interconnection Planning and Approvals
- Lead interconnection applications, utility negotiations, and regulatory approval processes in Alberta and British Columbia to secure the required power capacity, connection rights, and grid access within project timelines.
Power Supply Solutions and Technical Assurance
- Provide technical assurance for power system models, engineering assessments, and solution evaluations, ensuring constraints and risks are understood, and recommended designs meet reliability, affordability, and long-term operating requirements.
Commercial and Supply Chain Strategy
- Establish the commercial and supply chain strategy for power infrastructure, translating market capacity, vendor capability, equipment availability, and Indigenous participation objectives into effective sourcing, procurement, and contracting approaches.
Governance, Risk and Performance
- Establish governance, decision rights, performance measures, and risk controls for the power infrastructure portfolio, ensuring clear accountability for cost, schedule, assumptions, commitments, and project obligations.
Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness
- Build and lead a high-performing high-voltage infrastructure function, establishing clear accountabilities, resource and budget plans, performance expectations, and governance required to deliver project priorities and enable effective cross-functional execution.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Post-secondary education in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer designation (APEGA, EGBC, or equivalent) is preferred.
- Minimum 20 years of progressively responsible experience within pipeline, energy, utility, transmission, generation, or major infrastructure organizations.
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale electrical infrastructure, power system, transmission, distribution, substation, interconnection, or utility integration programs.
- Proven experience supporting major capital projects through development, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, and operational handover phases.
- Experience working with Canadian utility regulators, system operators, independent power producers, and electric utilities.
Working Conditions
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- May need to provide support outside of regular business hours and/or on the weekend.
