The Manager Financial Systems Manager oversees the organization's financial systems' development, implementation, and maintenance. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, supports system improvements and collaborates with various departments to meet financial reporting needs.

 

The position will provide leadership and support to members of the Financial Systems team, as well as guidance and recommendations to leadership on new system features and process enhancements leveraging detailed comprehension of complex business processes and system workflows.

This position is located in our Calgary Head Office and will report to the Director, Finance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the configuration, maintenance, and daily operations of Trans Mountain’s financial systems, including overseeing any projects related to testing Microsoft-imposed and optional system upgrades.
  • Ensure that all relevant business processes are accurately represented in test cases. Safeguard the accuracy and integrity of financial data within the systems.
  • Proactively investigate opportunities for system enhancements and present recommendations to leadership.
  • Manage and review the design of new and modified security roles based on business requirements and identified issues.
  • Coordinate the testing of security role and system configuration changes performed by Managed Services providers, and vet security role assignments to users for appropriateness and segregation of duties before approval.
  • Maintain segregation of duty documentation related to security roles to ensure compliance.
  • Manages and directs the work of a senior finance professional by establishing and managing their annual goals, conducting regular performance management activities, and completing yearly performance reviews to aid their performance and progression.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of Finance’s semiannual system testing, including, compiling and updating data sets for regression testing, and coordinating and guiding users to perform manual testing effectively. Regularly monitor and report on project performance, identifying trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of policies and processes related to Financial systems.
  • Collaborate with other senior Finance staff to ensure policies are aligned with financial reporting requirements and standards.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to master data or associated business processes and provide backup for master data maintenance tasks and the period-end close process to cover vacations and absences.
  • Accountable for quality assurance over financial data & compliance with financial policies is maintained through the development and implementation of system controls.
  • Respond to queries from internal and external auditors about master data, business processes and security roles to support the cohesive flow of data as outlined in Trans Mountain’s reporting obligations.
  • Collaborate with and train other Finance team members.

 

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a related position.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • CPA Designation is required.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 required.
  • Broad experience and knowledge of accounting systems and processes.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to address business issues within the system functionality.
  • Communicates clearly, concisely and effectively both written and verbally
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail is critical with the ability to work effectively under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
