Trans Mountain operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 300,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta and British Columbia, and 111 kilometres of pipeline in Washington state.

As a Land Administration, Expansion Project, Summer Student (Calgary) with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a dynamic and fast-paced group of Land & Right of Way experts. 


This position is based in our Calgary office and will report to the Senior Director, Land & Project Permits.

Duration: May 1, 2023 to August 31, 2023


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with updates to our land and administrative files including new data entry, identification of deficient data pertaining to properties, land use, easements, and other documents and information;
  • Undertake necessary research and data source retrieval to update changes to contracted third parties for our easements, leases, and licenses. This includes land title searches, corporate record searches and direct calls to landowners and occupants to maintain a current record of ownership and land interests on properties over which our pipeline systems operate;
  • Ensure that periodic file review dates generated by the foregoing are entered into the systems for action on contract renewals, periodic payments etc.;
  • Be able to source file information and provide information as requested by internal and external parties;
  • Assist with invoicing, budget tracking and bill payments; and
  • Assist with other general administrative requirements including file management, document preparation and mailings.


Qualifications and Professional Experience:

  • Enrolled in a Petroleum Land Administration, Energy Asset Management, or related program, preferably entering 2nd or 3rd year;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook & PowerPoint);
  • Some knowledge of ArcGIS, records management systems and data entry protocols would be an asset;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to multi-task effectively, with strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude;
  • Self-motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision; and
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple priorities.


Other Requirements and Information:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution and return to full time studies in the Fall;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License is preferred; and
  • A field visit may be provided as part of this role.
