As a Land Analyst with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of professionals in the Land department.

 

This role supports and coordinates various land and right-of-way issues ensuring accurate and up-to-date land data within Trans Mountain’s asset base.

 

They support land requirements for pipeline maintenance, capital projects, and public awareness programs. The role involves overseeing administrative tasks related to land tenures, including reviewing contractual terms and ensuring compliance with obligations. Responsibilities also include using geographic information systems (GIS) to input, analyze, manipulate, and present geospatial information through maps and reports to support Land & Right of Way (ROW) planning and development initiatives such as land ownership monitoring, tenure applications, negotiations, agreements, annual programs, and stakeholder communication.

 

Additionally, the Land Analyst coordinates land entries for right-of-way programs, handling permit applications and supports Regional Land Representatives and/or Surveyors.

 

The position will be located at either our Burnaby or Calgary offices.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake necessary research, analysis and data source retrieval to update changes to contracted third parties for our easement and other private and Crown tenures. This includes land title searches and corporate record searches to maintain a current record of ownership and land interests on properties over which our pipeline systems operate.
  • Extract data from various repositories to generate customized reports for internal use to support Land & ROW initiatives and property referrals, this also includes interpreting and analyzing data. Perform quality assurance on generated results to maintain data integrity and maintain metadata and spatial data standards.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external organizations on data migration, integration, and representation in Borealis. Plan, administer and maintain the department’s SharePoint site and database management systems and contribute to the documentation of data entry standards and processes to support Land & ROW records management system.
  • Utilize GIS software to input, analyze, manipulate, and present geospatial information through maps and reports to support land ownership monitoring, tenure applications, negotiations, agreements, annual programs, and stakeholder communication.
  • Be able to source file information, provide information as requested by internal and external parties and undertake correspondence necessary for managing the varied land interests held by the company, including correspondence with governmental authorities and landowners.
  • Coordinate new land tenure applications, prepare real estate contract documentation (enter and construct, temporary access, rights of ways, releases, etc.) and identify issues (if any) to ensure project schedules are met including giving direction and providing oversight to external land service providers about land-related activities for projects and operation and maintenance activities.

 

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Completion of post-secondary education (Community College) with a focus in GIS technology, database analysis, business, real estate, planning and agriculture or a related field.
  • 6-9 years of demonstrated experience working in GIS/land administration/management preferably in the energy pipeline sector.
  • Land and ROW management knowledge specific to the energy product pipeline business and guided field experience.
  • Must have competent skills with ESRI, Microsoft Office applications and the ability to use databases/land management systems.
  • Membership in IRWA, RI(BC), or similar. 
  • Commissioner for taking affidavits in BC or AB.

 

Specialized Training

  • On-going or existing training in GIS, programming, data analysis, Real Estate Administration/Law, Urban Land Economics courses, IRWA courses.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Provincial Driver’s License.
