Reporting to the Manager, Project Controls, the Lead, Planning & Scheduling is responsible for developing, integrating, and maintaining the Master Integrated Project Schedule across a portfolio of projects.  This role drives project efficiency by implementing standardized planning and scheduling practices, leveraging AACE and PMI methodologies to optimize timelines, mitigate risks, and enhance stakeholder alignment.

 

This role is classified as “Office First” under the company’s Where We Work policy, and the successful incumbent will work full-time out of the company’s Calgary office.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and refines planning and scheduling approaches using data analysis, stakeholder feedback, and emerging tools and technologies.
  • Establishes standards, processes, and frameworks as aligned with best practices and governance requirements to ensure consistency and effectiveness in planning and scheduling.
  • Builds, maintains, and optimizes project schedules to support successful project execution.
  • Provides guidance, and training on planning and scheduling tools, techniques, and standards to enhance team proficiency.
  • Leads and mentors other project schedulers, providing technical guidance and quality assurance across all project schedules.
  • Designs and enforces processes that comply with governance requirements and support project objectives.
  • Guides project teams on schedule management and optimization, monitors progress, identifies risks, prepares reports, and facilitates schedule review meetings to ensure alignment with scope, budget, and resources.
  • Maintains governance over a Primavera P6 Database and builds global and project specific activity Code libraries.

 

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 10+ years or more of related work experience.
  • Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) – PMI; Certified Cost Professional (CCP) or Certified Schedule Professional (CSP) – AACE International.
  • Deep understanding of project controls within PMO environments, particularly those driven by Stage-Gate methodologies.
  • Minimum 10 years of planning and scheduling experience in large-scale infrastructure, energy, and facilities projects.
  • Proficiency in project Scheduling and analysis tools such as Primavera P6, Steelray, Acumen Fuse, etc.
  • Proven expertise in advanced scheduling techniques, baseline management, delay analysis, and critical path analysis.
  • Experienced in managing and maintaining a centralized P6 database, including global and project-specific activity code libraries, calendars, and layouts.
  • Capable of authoring comprehensive project documentation such as Basis of Schedules and Project Controls Requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in industry best practices for Progress Measurement and performance reporting.
  • Collaborative leader with a passion for mentoring, coaching, leading, fostering teamwork and guiding others; capable in navigating and facilitating difficult conversations.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster teamwork within the department and across.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and sound decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and prioritization skills.
  • Thrives under pressure, adept at managing strict deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Critical focus on accuracy and detail and work efficiently in a time-conscious and time-effective manner in a high-paced, agile, dynamic and multi-task environment.

 

Other Requirements and Information

  • May need to provide support outside of regular business hours and/or on the weekend.
  • 5-10% travel to various site locations may be required.
