Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state.

 

Trans Mountain also operates a state-of-the-art loading facility, Westridge Marine Terminal, with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets.

The Manager, Commercial Asset Management is accountable for commercial analysis, negotiation support, and evaluation of commercial commitments, working closely with internal stakeholders as well as customers and other industry contacts.

This position is based in the Calgary Head Office location and will report to the Director, Commercial Asset Management.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Commercial Leadership: Provide support on a forward-thinking commercial strategy for the crude oil transportation business.
  • Team Coaching and Development: Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to commercial analysts.
  • Contract Negotiation and Agreements: Develop term sheets, and support negotiations with external vendors where Trans Mountain has commercial interests, such as partners, suppliers, and customers.
  • Process Enhancement: Contribute to the development and improvement of internal commercial processes and templates.
  • Internal Communication Leadership: Drive effective communication related to commercial activities within the organization.
  • Industry Expertise, Network and Knowledge: Leverage existing knowledge, industry connections and customer priorities to drive commercial goals and business development.  Cultivate and expand both internal and external networks to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Opportunity Identification and Execution: Identify, evaluate, and capitalize on commercial and business development opportunities aligned with organizational goals, and continuously monitor market conditions, trends, and competitor activities to optimize commercial strategies.
  • Network Utilization:
    • Customer Engagement: Facilitate formal and informal customer meetings, presenting commercial solutions effectively.

Qualifications and Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of ten years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial roles within the hydrocarbon industry.  Crude oil experience would be an asset. 
  • Strong analytical skills, financial acumen, and proficiency in modelling.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building abilities.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific software and tools.
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Self-motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail is critical with the ability to work effectively under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.

Trans Mountain also operates through 15 First Nation Reserves located within the region spanning the BC interior through Fraser Valley.
