As a Manager, Regulatory Applications with Trans Mountain, you will lead the Regulatory Applications Team; oversee risk identification and management of regulatory processes associated with project and operation applications and compliance filings under the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) and other agencies as required (e.g. BC EAO, ECCC, DFO, Transport Canada, PHMSA, US WUTC, CRTC, BCER).  

 

This role is classified as “Office First” under the company’s Where We Work policy, and the successful incumbent will work full-time out of the company’s Calgary office and reports to the Director, Regulatory.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day regulatory team operations, ensuring clear responsibilities, priorities, and accountability as part of performance management.      
  • Maintain quality control and provide oversight for all non-tolls/tariff regulatory filings, ensuring regulatory compliance, consistency and alignment with organizational standards.               
  • Represent the regulatory function in TMEP and Major Projects Office leadership meetings, contributing regulatory perspectives and updates.
  • Act as the key liaison between the regulatory team and internal/external stakeholders, including government and regulatory agencies.                         
  • Coordinate internal resources across departments to support efficient project and operations execution related to regulatory approvals and compliance.       
  • Manage the Management of Change (MOC) process, ensuring timely involvement, accurate status reporting, and effective SME review coordination.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of recurring team reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) to ensure transparency and progress tracking.                                                                                                                                                                 

 

Qualifications and Professional Experience 

  • University degree in Political Science, Government Relations, Law, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in regulatory or equivalent experience.
  • Project Management Profession (PMP) designation.
  • Proficient in analyzing and troubleshooting complex issues, with a proven ability to make sound decisions.
  • Exceptional skills in stakeholder engagement, information gathering, and collaboration, with a proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities with the ability to simplifying complex concepts into clear, organized, and easily understandable information.
  • Collaborative leader with a passion for mentoring, leading, fostering teamwork and guiding others; capable in navigating and facilitating difficult conversations.
  • Thrives under pressure, adept at managing strict deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Critical focus on accuracy and detail and work efficiently in a time-conscious and time-effective manner in a high-paced, agile, dynamic and multi-task environment.

 

Other Requirements and Information

  • Will need to provide support outside of regular business hours and/or on the weekend.
  • Occasional business travel is required.
