As a Pipeline Integrity Engineering Co-op Student with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group in the Technical Services Department. This position is based in our Calgary Head office.


This opportunity is open to post-secondary students, currently enrolled in your 2nd or 3rd year of studies and part of a Co-op Program.


The position will begin in May 2022 with a term length of 12 months.


As part of your co-op term, your job responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with class location change management, including the following:
  • Assessment QA/QC.
  • Gathering pipeline datasets required for hydraulic assessments.
  • Assisting in gathering regulatory filing requirements for areas of class location change.
  • Coordinating with other internal departments to complete field-level surveys and assessments.
  • Using engineering judgement in the review and acceptance of class assessment results from a third-party vendor software.
  • Coordinating directly with field personnel and other business units and third-party consultants to ensure life-cycle management of class assessments.
  • Assisting the Class Engineer in the regulatory filing of reportable class location changes.
  • Assist in updating Pipeline Integrity technical documents, procedures and standards and ensuring compliance to regulatory requirements.
  • Assist the Risk Engineer in the QA/QC of in-line inspection tool data, field dig information, and other pipeline integrity data prior to loading into the risk database.
  • Assist with the collection of TMEP pipe property datasets.
  • Assist the in-line inspection team with the planning of in-line inspection tool runs.
  • Assist with the data collection and filing of annual performance indicator reports.
  • Archive field coating evaluation reports.


Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Currently working towards a post-secondary institute degree, in your 2nd or 3rd year of your Mechanical, Chemical, Civil or Petroleum Engineering
  • Enrollment in your institution's co-op program is a requirement
  • Ability to take on tasks proactively
  • Technical understanding of pipelines would be an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of software (ex., Outlook/Word/Excel/SharePoint/Teams)
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude
  • Self-motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Attention to detail is critical
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle strict deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
