Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state.

 

Trans Mountain also operates a state-of-the-art loading facility, Westridge Marine Terminal, with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets.

With our expanded pipeline system now in place, Trans Mountain provides enhanced direct access for Canadian crude oil to world markets. The Principal Enterprise Architect will be responsible for defining and driving the strategic direction of technology, data, and process modernization across Trans Mountain, ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives. Reporting to the Director, IT Governance, Architecture, and Innovation, this role provides oversight of enterprise-wide modernization initiatives, fosters architectural excellence through mentorship and leadership of the architecture community, and sets the tone for consistent, high-quality execution. By establishing and developing strategic technology roadmaps, the Principal Enterprise Architect plays a critical role in shaping the future-state architecture in direct support of executive strategy.

 

This role will be located at our Calgary Head office and will be an in-office position.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Stand up and build out of the enterprise architecture function for Trans Mountain including building fit for purpose architecture principles, strategy and modern governance
  • Promote cross-functional collaboration and architectural governance, ensuring enterprise architecture remains agile, resilient, and business-aligned.
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to the architecture community, fostering a culture of excellence and guiding architects in applying best practices.
  • Lead the strategic direction for enterprise technology, data, and process modernization, establishing a clear blueprint that supports long-term transformation.
  • Ensure IT investments and initiatives are aligned with strategic business goals, enabling measurable value and operational efficiency.
  • Establish and enforce architectural standards and technology guardrails, ensuring consistency, scalability, and security across solutions.
  • Develop strategic technology roadmaps that articulate future-state architecture and align with executive priorities.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, translating business strategy into actionable architectural outcomes.

 

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or Business is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience within the oil and gas pipeline or other energy infrastructure sectors, with a proven track record of delivering results in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Certifications in TOGAF, TDWI’s, DAMA Certified Data Management Professional, and ITIL® 4 Master Certification will be considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, with the ability to assess risk, identify opportunities, and drive initiatives aligned with long-term business goals.
  • Prior experience with business analysis with the strong ability to align technology with business strategy.
  • Experience working in an agile team.
  • Knowledge of business functions, processes and business terminology.
  • A strong understanding of business capabilities and strategic technology roadmaps.
  • A strong understanding of data governance.
