Trans Mountain operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 300,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta and British Columbia, and 111 kilometres of pipeline in Washington state.

As a Senior Data Platform Architect with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of Experts in the Information Systems & Technology department. This position is based in our Calgary Office and will be working a hybrid schedule.
As a Senior Data Platform Architect, your responsibilities may include:
- Designing and implementing data storage solutions: You will need to design and implement storage solutions that meet the organization's data storage needs, ensuring that they are scalable, efficient, and secure.
- Creating and maintaining data pipelines: You will be responsible for building and maintaining data pipelines that move data between different systems, such as databases, data lakes, and data warehouses.
- Building data models: You will create data models that are optimized for efficient querying and analysis. This includes understanding the data and the business requirements, as well as designing tables, views, and other database objects.
- Developing and deploying data integration solutions: You will need to build and deploy data integration solutions that enable data to be transferred between various systems in real-time, ensuring that data is up-to-date and accurate.
- Monitoring and optimizing data performance: You will need to continuously monitor the performance of data solutions, identify, and troubleshoot issues, and optimize data processing and storage to ensure that data is processed and retrieved quickly and efficiently.
- Ensuring data security and compliance: You will be responsible for implementing data security measures and ensuring that data solutions comply with relevant regulations, such as GDPR and CCPA.
- Collaborating with other teams: You will work closely with other teams, such as software engineers, data scientists, and business analysts, to ensure that data solutions meet the needs of the organization and its stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with the business to understand business requirements and determine, develop, and implement data models to meet business requirements.
- Business analysis planning, business requirements specification, business case development, functional and non-functional specification.
- Provides support for the continuing operations of applications systems, including troubleshooting and resolving system issues, and managing the impact of infrastructure and system-related upgrades.
- Understands the functions of business processes (ie. financial processes) to develop effective data models.
- Effectively communicates with business partners and the IT team.
- Running scrums, request status reporting, partner with business to deliver successful business process.
- Ensures appropriate documentation for all development and modification and ensure integrity and security of institutional data, data governance, practice development and best practice implementations.
- Understands and uses corporate standards, processes, and procedures to ensure alignment with the business and adherence to policies and governance.
- Clearly documents system solutions, system architecture and business processes to ensure continuity in business support.
- Understands the company technology infrastructure and works within that infrastructure when deploying information systems.
- Technical efficiency related to development lifecycle management, business intelligence, data governance, data management and business process management.
- Operate within an agile and ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) framework for project development lifecycle environment.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
Must have:
- 2+ year hand-on experience with Microsoft Azure Data Products/Services
- Knowledge of business functions, processes, and business terminology.
- Strong understanding of integration and business intelligence capabilities.
- Strong understanding of data governance.
- Business analysis experience; understanding the business domain, drawing out requirements, communicating, managing expectations and documentation.
Bonus:
- 10+ years of experience in a relative field
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Certificate
- University degree or diploma in Computing Science or an equivalent discipline
- TDWI’s (Transforming Data With Intelligence), Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP) Certification, CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) Data Center Certification, DAMA (Data Management) and/or Certified Data Management Professional Certification would be an asset
- Experience working in Erwin Data Modeler
- Experience with Profisee Data Governance.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview.
Other:
- The successful candidate will be required in office on a hybrid basis.
