As a Senior Regulatory Advisor with Trans Mountain, you will have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of Regulatory experts supporting operation activities for the Trans Mountain pipeline system.
This position is based in our Calgary Head office. This position will project manage regulatory processes for applications and filings under the CER and as required, other regulators and associated compliance activities. This position will also be responsible for incident reporting, follow-up up and close-out as well as tracking and assessing new or changing regulatory initiatives, rules and regulations/and legal requirements and maintaining communication with regulator(s).
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, track, resolve, and close out regulatory filings/submissions and compliance activities (e.g. audits), and coordinate filings in a timely and accurate manner. Support and train junior members of the Regulatory Team.
- Effectively and efficiently project manage project applications from start to finish by developing comprehensive project plans including internal timelines, resource allocation, risk assessment and communication plans. Support the regulatory hearing process from inception to completion.
- Ensure timely follow-up and close-out of conditions and commitments in applications, orders, and directions from the regulator(s). Apply a detail-oriented mindset and a commitment to ensuring accuracy and compliance in all regulatory activities.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with regulatory stakeholders (internal and external). Act as point of contact for internal teams and external partners, addressing inquires, providing updates, and resolving issues promptly.
- Participate in industry associations as applicable, analyze changes and proposed changes to regulations. Communicate initiatives that may have an impact to Trans Mountain.
- Support regulatory department initiatives or research to support applications or understanding for applicability of existing or proposed regulations.
- Communicate and collaborate on workload with the Regulatory Team to facilitate completion of work tasks.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Regulatory affairs, Law, Environmental Science, Economics or Public Policy.
- A minimum of 8 years of related work experience.
- Direct experience or familiarity with the Federal regulatory process in the energy industry (Canadian Energy Regulatory (CER) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)) throughout the asset life cycle.
- Experience in pipeline regulation would be preferred.
- Experience in regulatory affairs, legal, environmental services, economics or public policy.
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex regulatory projects and initiatives.
- Excellent project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively among cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Collaborative and strong team player.
