As the Manager, Training with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of staff across Trans Mountain. This position can be based in our Edmonton or Calgary offices.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Training Program for all identified requirements for all Trans Mountain personnel. This includes the development, implementation, and maintenance of Program plans, standards, procedures, and systems. The development and maintenance of training requirements and materials, including the identification appropriate assignments and audiences. Management of training administration, including the cost and schedule of third-party training courses, validation and processing of training records, stakeholder engagement at all levels of the organization, and reporting to senior and executive management on training performance.
The Training Program is responsible to work collaboratively with departments across Trans Mountain to ensure all personnel are appropriately trained and competent to perform their assigned duties and all regulatory requirements for training and competency are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Management of the Training Program and Element within Trans Mountain's Integrated Safety and Loss Management System (ISLMS).
- Develops, implements, and maintains Program plans, standards, and procedures.
- Establishes and maintains training matrices that formalize the individual training and competency requirements for all personnel.
- Establishes, measures performance, and reports on Program goals, objectives, and targets.
- Integrates ISLMS Elements within the Training Program and ensures the implementation of the training processes (element) across all programs and departments.
- Plans and executes projects for continual improvement of the program.
- Oversees the day-to-day activities of department staff and consultants who support and/or directly undertake the activities of the Training Program.
- Provides regular coaching and mentorship to department staff through annual goal setting, regular meetings and performance discussions.
- Leads the collaboration with stakeholders across all programs and departments, in the development and maintenance of training and competency materials, this includes establishing and implementing the appropriate audiences and requirements for requalification.
- Ensures compliance with applicable regulations and policies, standards, and procedures in the development and delivery of training materials.
- Oversees the validation and processing of training records, to ensure all training requirement have been achieved.
- Leads the Training Department in the collection and analysis of training data, to identify issues or opportunities for improvement.
- Develops trending and reporting on training performance on regular intervals (monthly, quarterly annually) for Senior and Executive Management.
- Supports requests from departments for specific reporting on training and competency performance.
- Responsible for development, implementation and monitoring of annual plan for third-party training courses including the development and maintenance of training budgets, monitoring of spending and preparation of cost forecasts.
- Represents the Training Program and supports other Programs during regulatory and internal audits and inspections, and other reviews.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
- Post-secondary education/training in Business, Social Sciences, Education or a relevant discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar role with leadership experience.
- Strong working knowledge of Learning Management Systems and computer-based training platforms and course development packages commonly used in Industry.
- Certification as a Certified Training Practitioner (CTP), Certified Training and Development Professional (CTDP) and/or membership in Society for Technical Communication or similar would be an asset.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
- Self-motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision.
- Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Attention to detail is critical.
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle strict deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills. Work under pressure.
- Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
- Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.
