As the Manager Simulations with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive and fast-paced group of engineering and information technology professionals.  This position is located at the Edmonton office.

 

The Manager Simulations is responsible for supervising and managing the activities of personnel working on all aspects of pipeline leak detection and monitoring systems. This role oversees the development of new systems and the daily monitoring and maintenance of existing systems to ensure reliability, effectiveness and regulatory compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the team responsible for pipeline leak detection and monitoring systems, including planning and managing daily work responsibilities for direct reports.
  • Responsible for employee coaching, performance management, coordinating third-party vendors, and negotiating and managing contracts to ensure that products and resources meet contract specifications.
  • Provide training and support to team members to enhance their skills and knowledge, while overseeing the development and maintenance of pipeline leak detection, trainer/simulator, and batch tracking systems to ensure their effectiveness and reliability.
  • Manage, analyze, and ensure the daily monitoring and maintenance of existing systems to guarantee their reliability and effectiveness. This includes identifying areas for improvement and developing and managing capital projects from conception to implementation.
  • Plan and manage the budget for areas of responsibility and capital projects.
  • Ensure all systems comply with relevant regulatory standards and requirements, including managing regulatory compliance for the area of responsibility.
  • Assure that leak detection systems meet Trans Mountain management system and regulatory requirements and facilitating regular group meetings with stakeholders.
  • Preparing and present reports on system performance and compliance to senior management.
  • Collaborate with other departments to integrate new technologies and improve existing systems.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in leak detection and monitoring technologies.
  • Represent Transmountain during external regulatory audits for pipeline leak detection.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computing Science, Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience, preferably in the petroleum industry with over 5 years of leadership experience.
  • Experience developing and supporting leak detection systems or similar real time computer systems on liquid petroleum systems.
  • Experience with people leadership and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of pipeline leak detection, hydraulics, and operation.
  • Experience working with real-time software.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical training to non-technical personnel.
  • Experience leading CPM system projects.

 

Other Requirements and Information

  • Based in Edmonton
  • 5% travel may be required.
