As a Pipeline Protection Technician at Trans Mountain you are responsible for ensuring all Trans Mountain assets are identified and protected against external mechanical damage during ground disturbance and that all Trans Mountain assets are properly identified and that all stakeholders know how to conduct themselves around said assets. 

 

This position is based in the Edmonton Regional Office and reports to the Supervisor, Pipeline Protection. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Communicate Trans Mountain pipeline protection standards and practices to Trans Mountain employees and third parties         
  • Respond to One Call Notifications           
  • Provide site inspection of activities occurring on or near Trans Mountain Right of Way (ROW) to ensure compliance with, and provide enforcement of, Trans Mountain pipeline protection zones and ROW excavation conditions        
  • Represent Trans Mountain in public forums to improve awareness of damage prevention issues     
  • Identify pipeline locations using GI, GPS and line locating equipment       
  • Inspect ROW to ensure compliance with Trans Mountain signage program             
  • Provide periodic review and input related to Trans Mountain operational documentation including job plans, procedures and planning        
  • Analyze, interpret and utilize graphic and other information contained in drawings or generated by GIS technology 
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with landowners by addressing concerns and ensuring compliance 

 

Qualifications and Professional Experience: 

 

  • High School completion 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in related field 
  • Technical Diploma in related field and Journeyman trade certification is preferred 
  • Provincial Automobile License is required 
  • Self-motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision and have a good team building attitude 
  • Utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain a collaborative work environment and resolve any conflicts. 
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously as attention to detail is critical 
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle strict deadlines 
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, safety of company assets and employees, and the general public 
  • Demonstrated decision making ability and ability to achieve results using influence, while responding to One Calls 
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to change 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
