Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as Project Engineer, Facilities MOP (Contract). In this position, you will play a key role in providing engineering and project delivery support for assigned facilities scope within the Mainline Optimization Project (MOP). The MOP objective is to increase Line 2 capacity from 540 kbpd sustainable to 805 kbpd sustainable. Early In Service is targeted for early Q1 2029. The role will support multi-discipline engineering coordination, procurement, fabrication, construction support, commissioning, turnover, regulatory inputs, and close-out for assigned facilities packages.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support assigned pump station scope, which may include 5 new greenfield pump stations, 6 new stations at existing facilities, additional pump units at 6 existing stations, pump impeller upgrades, DRA facilities, and related brownfield modifications.
  • Support facilities equipment and vendor deliverables for 42 new 5000 hp pumps (31 running / 11 spares), 31 new VFDs, and related electrical, mechanical, controls, civil, structural, and commissioning interfaces.
  • Support terminal modification packages at Edmonton, Sumas, and Burnaby where assigned, including design reviews, procurement support, construction work packages, RFIs, turnover documentation, and Operations handover.
  • Provide project engineering support for assigned MOP facilities scope from development through engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, turnover, and close-out.
  • Support the Manager, Facilities MOP and assigned Facilities Project Manager in coordinating engineering deliverables, technical decisions, action items, schedules, estimates, risk registers, and gate deliverables.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Operations, construction, SCM, project controls, quality, HSE, environment, permitting, consultants, contractors, fabricators, and vendors to support integrated delivery of facility scope.
  • Review engineering deliverables, drawings, specifications, equipment data sheets, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, construction work packages, and contractor/vendor documents for completeness and alignment with Project requirements.
  • Support preparation and maintenance of scope descriptions, battery limits, assumptions, exclusions, interface registers, change logs, action registers, decision records, and technical clarifications.
  • Support risk identification and mitigation for engineering quality, brownfield interfaces, constructability, fabrication, long-lead equipment, outages, commissioning, turnover, and Operations interfaces.
  • Support the Trans Mountain Stage-Gate Project Delivery Model by preparing technical inputs, planning documents, estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and gate evidence for assigned facilities scope.
  • Support regulatory and permitting processes by preparing or coordinating technical inputs, reviewing documents, responding to information requests, and tracking commitments related to facilities scope.
  • Assist with procurement and fabrication by supporting technical specifications, vendor document review, technical evaluations, purchase requisitions, expediting inputs, and delivery tracking for assigned equipment and materials.
  • Support contractor and fabricator planning and execution by reviewing work plans, quality plans, inspection and test plans, lift plans, construction procedures, commissioning plans, and turnover documentation.
  • Coordinate with Operations on design inputs, maintainability, operability, tie-ins, outages, commissioning, isolation requirements, and handover expectations.
  • Participate in constructability reviews, design reviews, risk workshops, value-improvement reviews, commissioning readiness reviews, and lessons-learned activities as required.
  • Support resolution of RFIs, technical deviations, field changes, non-conformances, design changes, and construction issues in collaboration with the responsible disciplines.
  • Ensure Trans Mountain health, safety, environmental, quality, and security expectations are incorporated into technical deliverables, fabrication plans, and construction planning.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, action registers, meeting notes, decision logs, vendor document status, turnover records, and close-out documentation for assigned scope.
  • Prepare concise technical updates, presentations, reports, and decision materials for the Facilities Manager, assigned Project Manager, and project leadership as required.

 

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Bachelor of Engineering. EIT or P. Eng Certification required. PMP Certification an added benefit but not required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in the Oil & Gas industry or equivalent industry experience.
  • A consistent track record of delivering high‑quality work, managing competing priorities, and supporting key business processes or operational functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds and levels across the organization.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey information clearly, respectfully, and professionally.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and a willingness to contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive workplace culture.

 

Working Conditions

  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
