Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as a Senior Engineer Access (West), Pacific Link (Contract). In this position, you will play a key role in supporting the Project Leadership team in the development and integration of the project's technical definition, with a primary focus on pipeline route finalization, facility site selection, constructability, execution readiness, and interface coordination. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in engineering coordination, construction planning, constructability reviews, risk mitigation, and execution support for major pipeline and energy infrastructure projects. This position offers the opportunity to influence project design and execution strategies, support multidisciplinary teams and service providers, and contribute to the successful development and delivery of the Pacific Link project.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and refinement of pipeline, pump station, terminal, and marine infrastructure designs from concept through execution readiness and construction.
  • Lead and support field reconnaissance activities, documenting observations and findings to inform route selection, facility siting, GIS updates, and construction strategies.
  • Coordinate interfaces between Construction, Engineering, Project Controls, and other internal and external stakeholders, including engineering consultants, surveyors, GIS specialists, and construction service providers.
  • Review engineering contractor schedules, progress reports, and deliverables to ensure alignment with project scope, quality expectations, and delivery requirements.
  • Identify and validate Technically Challenging Areas (TCAs) and Areas of Interest (AOIs), ensuring appropriate engineering solutions and construction methodologies are developed.
  • Manage Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, action items, and interface issues to ensure timely resolution.
  • Provide constructability, construction sequencing, and methodology input to engineering, estimating, and project planning activities.
  • Support execution readiness reviews and the development of technical risk mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables with Project Controls, Estimating, and Scheduling teams to maintain alignment between scope, cost, schedule, and project objectives.
  • Identify construction-related risks and opportunities and support their inclusion within project risk registers and mitigation plans.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, studies, recommendations, and other project development deliverables.
  • Provide technical input into project cost estimates, throughput assumptions, and economic evaluations.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of field programs, including site visits, field reconnaissance, survey activities, access development, borehole investigations, and related engineering studies.
  • Participate in project meetings, provide progress updates, and contribute to monthly project reporting activities.
  • Ensure project documentation and contractor deliverables are maintained within approved document management systems.

 

Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA, EGBC, or eligibility to obtain registration is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience supporting pipeline, terminal, marine, or large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting feasibility studies, project development, engineering, and execution planning for major capital projects.
  • Strong understanding of constructability reviews, construction sequencing, field execution practices, and project development methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering interfaces between project teams, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Experience reviewing engineering deliverables, technical studies, schedules, and project execution plans.
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and resolve complex technical, constructability, and interface challenges.
  • Strong understanding of project controls, estimating, scheduling, risk management, and execution readiness processes.
  • Experience with field investigations, site assessments, survey programs, geotechnical investigations, and route selection activities is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365, document management systems, GIS platforms, and engineering collaboration tools is considered an asset.
  • A track record of delivering high-quality work, managing competing priorities, and supporting key business processes or operational functions.

 

Working Conditions

  • Combination of office and field-based work supporting project development and execution activities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites and field locations as required.
  • May need to provide support outside of regular business hours to meet project schedules, milestones, or field program requirements.
